After Analyzing
I have been going over the last 17 months, step by step, analyzing the ups and downs and the waves and the depression. I came to the realization there is one initial huge loss when a loved one dies, but before, during and especially after, there are daily losses. Sometimes there will be one during a day, but because of circumstances or events the entire day will be filled with losses that slap you in the face and take your breath away. Hence, the following poem:
Many Losses
The losses began
With words of
Cancer, stage
IV, and hospice.
The biggest and
most visible loss
Was the day you
left the earth.
Each day since
has brought
Losses so small
yet so significant.
An empty chair,
a sigh,
A mowed lawn, a
snore,
Laughing at our
grandson,
Camping,
fishing,
Plans
Dreams
Hugs
The future.
